NEW YORK GUITAR SEMINAR LINEUP!

The music and culture of Cuba have been profound influences since our formative years as guitar students. We pay artistic tribute this summer to that heritage: Laura’s first teacher was Luisa Sanchez de Fuentes, a Cuban emigre living in south Florida. Michael’s main teacher through high school and college was Cuban-born Alberto Valdes Blain, a Segovia disciple teaching at Mannes.

Manuel Barrueco was a companion to numerous baseball games at the ‘new’ Yankee Stadium during the 1970s. Elias Barreiro invited us to New Orleans and produced some of our first concerts, both as soloists and then as the duo.
— Michael Newman & Laura Oltman, Founding Artistic Directors
The numerous and varied activities at the NYGS offer participants the opportunity to perform in concerts solo and in ensemble, perform in master classes and workshops, and work with and listen to concerts of its always world-renowned faculty. The enriching experience of the NYGS is unique in the classical guitar world.
— Mariano Aguirre, Festival Director and Administrative Coordinator
